Expanded VLAN Configurations

IPitomy has added in an easy to use VLAN interface which allows the IP-PBX to be a DHCP server for the phones on its own virtual network.

IPitomy customers have long used VLANs in their local area configurations.  This was made easy by simply changing the master configuration file entry and all of the phones could be added to a VLAN.  As VLANs become more widely adopted among VoIP installations, IPitomy has added some features to simplify the installation and setup of IPitomy systems on VLANs.

A VLAN is a group of devices on one or more LANs that are configured to communicate as if they were attached to the same wire, when in fact they are located on a number of different LAN segments. Because VLANs are based on logical instead of physical connections, they are extremely flexible.  Having a logical way to organize network devices is a big advantage.  VLANs can be configured for large ranges for enterprise users so all phones are on the same virtual network.  This is useful for enterprise network management.

The IPitomy PBX can now use more than one IP address with a single LAN port.  This simplifies VLAN implementation and allows the PBX to access both the VLAN where the phones are residing as well as desktop PC's so using Q Manager is not so much of a challenge with Network configuration.

IPitomy has added a VLAN configuration interface to the IP PBX System.  The enhancement makes creating VLANs less complicated by including the configuration for each phone as part of the process. Often network managers who are not familiar with VoIP are nervous when VoIP is installed on their network. Security is a big concern as is keeping the LAN functioning without IP conflicts.  VLANs solve a variety of networking issues. Now IPitomy installers can install a VLAN with fully configured phones in the same amount of time it may take without one.  VLAN devices benefit from the built in DHCP server in IPitomy.

Since the VLAN devices (phones) are set to get their IP address from the IPitomy PBX, the local network is completely unaffected by the installation of the PBX system.  The data switches require some configuration based upon the manufacturers specifications, but overall the installation is clean and simple.
